Mattress with a Mission: Our Commitment to Sustainability

by Kyla Tucker

A good night's sleep is essential to our overall health and well-being. And the right mattress can make all the difference in getting the restful and restorative sleep we need. But at what cost to the environment? The production and disposal of traditional mattresses have long been associated with negative environmental impacts, from the use of non-renewable resources to the generation of waste. But what if we could have a bed that not only supports our sleep but also the health of the planet? That's where we come in.

We are committed to sustainability, which shows in every aspect of our business operations. We use eco-friendly materials to create our mattresses, such as locally sourced bamboo, plant-based foams, and Repreve® Our Ocean® fabric. This unique material is made from recycled plastic bottles, reducing plastic waste in the environment and creating a comfortable and cozy sleeping surface for our customers. Using natural Talalay latex, derived from the sap of rubber trees, provides a durable and biodegradable material that is both long-lasting and renewable.

But our commitment to sustainability doesn't stop at the materials we use. We also focus on reducing our carbon footprint and limiting our reliance on fossil fuels. Our made-to-order and direct-to-consumer shipping model is 70% more efficient than traditional shipping methods, allowing us to transport more items at once and reduce the number of vehicles on the road. By doing so, we help lower carbon emissions and limit the environmental impact of transportation.

We go above and beyond in finding new ways to recycle and reuse mattresses. Unlike most companies that take a bed to the landfill after the sleep trial, we find a new forever home for the mattress through our sister company, Second Slumber. Through this initiative, we can extend the lifespan of our mattresses and contribute to a more sustainable future.

These initiatives set us apart as a leader in the mattress industry, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to sustainability. We understand that making eco-friendly choices is not only good for the environment  but also good for our customers, who want to make conscious and responsible purchasing decisions.

But why is it important to choose a sustainable mattress? Traditional mattresses contain a variety of materials that can be harmful to the environment and our health. For example, many mattresses contain polyurethane foam, made from petrochemicals and can release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into the air, contributing to indoor air pollution. Additionally, traditional mattresses often contain flame retardants linked to health issues such as cancer and reproductive problems. By choosing a mattress made from natural and eco-friendly materials, customers can reduce their exposure to these harmful chemicals and contribute to a healthier environment.

In conclusion, our commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of our business operations, from the materials used to the manufacturing and shipping processes. By prioritizing eco-friendliness and reducing our environmental impact, Haven Sleep Co. sets an example for other companies in the mattress industry and inspires consumers to make more conscious and responsible purchasing decisions. By choosing a sustainable mattress, we can support our health and well-being and also the planet’s health. As a company, we believe that by leading the way in sustainable practices, we can contribute to a more sustainable and healthy future for all.

Sleep Better. Live Better.
